3 Ways to Make Fitness Part of Your Life

Good morning! I hope you all are having a great week so far! Something that tends to be a struggle for a lot of my coaching clients is integrating fitness into their lives. Some enjoy it but don’t make time for it, some don’t enjoy it but want to, and some have never considered it necessary.

If you are wanting to integrate fitness into your life but haven’t yet, why not? Maybe you naturally stay thin without needing to exercise? Maybe you are injured? Maybe you don’t have time? Maybe you are exhausted and can’t fathom adding in more work?

All of these are valid feelings, BUT in order to create the life you want to live and work toward a health goal, you have to look at making & sustaining change. You have to look at the BENEFIT of making this change and you have to look at the COST of not making this change.

So what is your WHY? If it is just for looks, it won’t last. But if it’s for LIVELIHOOD, you will make it a priority.

To live a long, healthy life for you, your family & loved ones — you have to incorporate exercise every week.

Because to have a healthy life, exercise must be apart of it. Your heart needs it and your bones need it.

But that’s a topic for another day. Here’s my tips for you!

3 Ways to Make Fitness Part of Your Life:

Find a Fitness Plan or Program that Works for You

You know how teachers have lesson plans to help them stay organized and prepared to teach kids the content they need to learn? You need that for your health. You can’t expect to walk into the gym, or your garage, or living room and come up with something to do and see it through. You have to have a PLAN.

What kind of workouts do you want to try? What kind of plan can you commit to? What have you tried and not enjoyed? What have you tried and enjoyed in the past?

If it’s running, do it! If it’s walking, do it! If it’s bootcamp, do it! If it’s yoga, do it!

But commit to it- don’t try it on for a week and then drop it. I challenge you to pick a fitness plan/program for the next 30 days and commit to it. Which leads me to…

Schedule Your Workouts Before the Week Begins

In order for you to commit to a plan, you have to schedule it. Especially until you get into a routine. On Sunday, sit down and look at your week. Where can you fit in 30 minutes of exercise? What can you commit to right now? Start small, say, for the next 30 days, I will commit to work out 2x a week. Don’t overhaul it all and say 5 days if you aren’t even doing 1! Start small, and then gradually build to your goal. Optimally, health experts recommend designating 30 minutes, 5 days a week, to exercise.

For example:

Monday from 1-1:30 during my kids naptime, I’m going to complete ___ workout

Wednesday from 6-630am I will complete ___ workout in the garage

Saturday from 1-130pm I will go for a walk/run with my family

Now you are prepared, you know what to do and when to do it! Add it into your phone with an hour ahead of time alert to remind you!

Make it a Priority for Your Life

Whatever we care about, we will make it a priority. You have a show coming on at 8pm that you love? You will make sure you record it or show up for it. Have a call scheduled with a friend? You will show up for it.

But how many times do we choose to not workout? NOW, there are times for rest & grace when you are overwhelmed or in a different season of life. BUT if you are too busy to make your health a priority, you need to re-evaluate your priorities. We all have 30 minutes to designate to our health, it just depends on if it’s a priority. Take 30 minutes away from Netflix or social media 3x a week and dedicate it to exercise. I PROMISE you will find more mental & emotional clarity than whatever you are consuming on media.

Also, having accountability helps SO much. And that’s what I’m here for.
